Glasses on the run Newsletter #26
Hi,
I hope you are all well and enjoying the early summer. After an extra two-week break, caused by the arrival at home of two standard poodle puppies and the chaos that ensued, the Glasses on the run newsletter is back.
I hope you enjoy today's selection and as always please share your feedback by replying to this email.
What was interesting in the business of running
To begin with, here is an interesting 10-minute video on New Balance and how it became a cool brand, hitting $5.3 billion in revenue last year and aiming for doubling that amount.
A short interview with Nike CEO John Donahoe at the CNBC’s CEO Council Summit where he talks about the importance of the Chinese market for Nike.
At the same time Nike is starting a partnership with Strava. It will include the Nike Run Club and the Nike Training Club apps and users will be able to share their activities across both platforms. As someone who previously uploaded my Nike Run Club runs to Strava, I can attest that was a tedious and time consuming process.
More on Strava - privacy vulnerabilities were discovered yet again with its heatmap feature. Apprently it makes it possible to track someone to their home. It previously made it possible to discover the locations of military bases.
Some interesting development in the world of watches. Google has rolled out a number of updates to its Pixel Watch. Coros has become the official watch partner of the Valencia marathon - one of the fastest in the world with its latest edition recording the second and third fastest times for men and women respectively. And finally an overview of the latest WatchOS update from Apple.
And a few more interesting topics:
- After deciding to sell the huge stock pile of Yeezy shoes a few weeks ago, Adidas also dropped a law suit against Yeezy, in which it was looking for $75 million, although the legal battles are likely to continue.
- Saucony is making some of its shoes from a material derived from mushrooms.
- And finally, here's Altra's new President Jen McLaren on her management style and approach in the company. Altra is owned by VF Corp - the owner of The North Face, Timberland and Vans among other popular brands.
As always, thank you for reading,
