Hi,

I hope you are well and will enjoy this short selection from the business of running.

What was interesting in the business of running

Well, it's the Boston Marathon today, so let me start with the results. Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia won the men's race with 2:06:17, while the winner from the previous two years Evans Chebet finished third with 2:07:22. Hellen Obiri of Kenya won the women's race for a second year in a row with a time of 2:22:37. (CBS News, The Boston Athletic Association)

Moving on with an update on the Apple Watch case at the International Trade Commission (ITC). Medical device maker Masimo previously filed a patent infringement case against Apple at the ITC for a blood oxygen technology that some of the Apple Watch models use. That led to a ban on the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2, which was then lifted, but forced Apple to remove the disputed features from latest versions of those Apple Watch models. Apple has now filed an appeal (The Verge) a here is a very thorough timeline of events also by The Verge.

Asics has announced the launch of a new shoe - the Nimbus Mirai - which is intended to be returned and recycled. Among other parts, the entire upper, which has no overlays, will go through recycling. Asics claims that 87.3% of the upper material can then be retrieved as new polyester material to be used in the production of new shoes. The shoe retails for €200. (The News Market, Forbes)

California-based running apparel company rabbit is launching its first running shoe, called the Dream Chaser. Co-founder Monica DeVreese says it's a "very natural extension of the brand". rabbit's move is in line with other apparel brands like Tracksmith or Lululemon who have also introduced running shoes into their product lines. rabbit's Dream Chaser is launching officially at the Boston Marathon. Brooks Running has partnered with Outside Interactive to create and deliver a customised newsletter to "provide information on local trails and events, educational content and more." (Retail Touch Points)

A review of a strange looking, but apparently comfortable and fun running shoe - the Enduro Max by Deckers X Lab. Deckers X Lab is an innovation unit within Deckers (the parent company of Hoka One One among others) and it is led by Jean-Luc Diard - one of the founders of Hoka and previously the CEO of Salomon. And finally, an interesting read on how elite runners manage their Strava profiles. What to share and what not is a topic that's relevant for every Strava user, but it's useful to see the logic that professional runners use for such decisions. (Run by Outside Online)

As always, thank you for reading,
