What was interesting in the business of running
The 2024 London marathon took place on 21st April. There were a number of records: 53,500 finishers, a women-only world record of 02:16:16 set by Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir of Kenya, and a one-day fundraising of more than GBP 67 million. The men marathon race was won by Alexander Mutiso Munyao also of Kenya who finished in 2:04:01. (BBC, Reuters)
An interesting interview with Strava's new CEO Michael Martin. Some of the key points - Strava has more than 120 million active users globally, 50 million activities are being uploaded weekly, and it's been profitable for the last four years. Martin sees Maps as an area of opportunity and indeed there have already been new features, like suggested routes, this year. In an unscheduled trading update, Adidas announced its preliminary results for the first quarter of 2024 that were better than expected and raised its full year guidance. Its Q1 operating profit reached € 336 million, as compared to € 60 million for the same period last year.
